In-depth Session on Palmar Foot Pain at AAEP
Palmar foot pain is a major cause of lameness affecting the horse industry. I had the privilege of organizing an in-depth session on palmar foot pain at the 2006 AAEP Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas. The three hour session consisted of four major papers and a panel discussion on the topic. The speakers were Drs. Andy Parks, Bob Hunt, Kent Carter and Steve O’Grady. It brought out the dilemmas faced by clinicians in examining, assessing, diagnosing and treating horses with palmar foot pain. All the speakers stressed the importance of evaluating the structures and conformation of the foot along with the importance of farriery in treating and preventing palmar foot pain. With the kind permission of the AAEP, I will be posting the papers in the podiatry section of this web site.
